Welcome to Year 1!
Mrs Moynihan, Mrs Walker and Mrs Good
We hope that you had a relaxing half term holiday and are refreshed for the new learning this term. Thank you for all of your support during the first half term and it was great to meet with you to discuss your child’s learning.
Our topic this half term is Why Should I Live In Your Town?
This has a geography focus and we will be learning a lot about directions and map reading as well as identifying human and physical features around us.
In Maths we are focussing on adding and subtracting within 20 and putting numbers in order, spotting missing numbers and using lots of new mathematical vocabulary.
In English we will be learning all about bossy words and why they are important in instructions. We will have a go at writing our own instructions for building a spaceship and will also be focussing on sentence structure and letter formation.
In Core skills we will be developing independence and responsibility by making decisions and supporting others as well as looking after our own belongings and remembering to take everything home at the end of the day!
In Phonics we will be finishing learning the phase 5 sounds and then moving on to alternative pronunciations. Eg) ‘I’ can make the sounds i, ie or ee.
