Welcome to Year 1!
Mrs Moynihan, Mrs Walker and Mrs Good
Our topic this half term is Do Shadows Play In The Dark?
This has an art focus as we will be learning to use different media to create an effect. We will be using paint, pastel and collage techniques to recreate Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh.
As part of our ongoing topic about the Weather and Seasons we will be focussing on Spring.
In Maths we are focussing on fractions and will be learning about halves and quarters. This will take a very practical approach involving sandwiches, pizza and cake!
In English we will be learning to write some non-fiction pieces and develop our independence and apply our spelling skills.
In Phonics we will continue to work on alternative pronunciations and non - words (including split diagraphs)
In History and art we will be learning about the life and work of Vincent Van Gogh and attempting to use some of his techniques to recreate a piece of art.
In Science we will be learning about plants including parts of a plant and what they need to grow.
