This half term our topic is called ‘Invaders and settlers’, which has a History focus. We will be learning about the lives of The Romans and the impact they had on Britain.
In Maths over the term, we will be looking at:
In English we will be learning to use: pairs of adverbs to make our writing more interesting, interesting verbs, verbs to alter the tense of our writing, speech marks and the appropriate punctuation, suffixes to change the tense and meaning of words and common, proper, collective and compound nouns.
We will continue to learn spelling rules such as: ous- anxious, sc – scence, sion – confusion, il – illegal, que – unique and gue – league. We will also continue to practice our joined handwriting style.
In Guided Reading we will be learning to: read fluently, compare the themes in the books we read, find information accurately and quickly and discuss the words that the author has chosen.
In Science we will be learning more about electricity, looking at appliances that are powered by electricity, making circuits and exploring conductors and insulators.
In our Core Skills curriculum we are focussing on Developing Independence and Responsibility.
P.E- Lessons will be on a Tuesday and swimming will be on a Friday this term, so please ensure that your child has their complete kit on these days, to include:
House colour T-shirt
Earrings to be taken out or taped up Or swimming costume and towel.
Reading- suggested daily to include discussion- please record/get your child to record in their reading log (What they have read, the date and any comments on progress) Reading records need to be in school every day.
Spellings- weekly spellings to practice at home. Bring in on a Monday and sent home Fridays.
Maths: Schofield and Sims – 1 test to be completed weekly, please hand in on Fridays.
