This half term our topic is called ‘Should we stop eating chocolate?’, which has a Design and Technology focus. We will be learning to research, design, make and evaluate a chocolate product.
In Maths over the term, we will be looking at:
In English we will be learning to: continue to edit our writing more independently, developing our use of vocabulary to help us explain how characters feel and to write clear descriptions in stories. We will use ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ by Roald Dahl as a key text to help us develop our ideas. We will continue to practice using paragraphs to sequence ideas and to use past, present or future tense consistently.
We will continue to learn spelling rules such as: adding il e.g illegal and illogical and revising un – unkind, im – impatient, dis – disobey; the c sound spelt as que e.g cheque an g spelt as gue e.g tongue; adding ir to words beginning with r e.g irregular and continuing to practice spelling the words on the Year3/4 list and homophones. We will also continue to practice our joined handwriting style.
In Guided Reading by reading a range of texts such as poetry, play scripts and stories we will learn to: discuss and give reasons for the words that the author has chosen, talking about the meaning of new words, to compare different texts and to make predictions and to discuss the main themes.
In Science we will be exploring the properties of solids and liquids, observing changes in state by melting and freezing, as well as learning about the role of evaporation and condensation in the water cycle.
In our Core Skills curriculum we are focussing on Improving own Learning and Performance.
P.E- Lessons will be on a Tuesday and Friday this term, so please ensure that your child has their complete kit on these days, to include:
House colour T-shirt/jumper Black Shorts/joggers
Pumps/trainers Earrings to be taken out or taped up
Reading- suggested daily to include discussion- please record/get your child to record in their reading log (What they have read, the date and any comments on progress)
Spellings- weekly spellings to practice at home which include the weekly spelling rule and/or words from the Year 3/4 spelling list.
Maths: Schofield and Sims - to be completed weekly, 1 test a week and to be handed in on Fridays.
