At Binley Woods we love P.E and sport and we understand how important it is to keep our bodies and minds healthy.
Across the academic year every class enjoys a range of sports in their P.E lessons which include:
Outdoor and Adventurous Activities e.g orienteering and cross country (Reception visit the woods regularly)
Gymnastics - including floor and apparatus
Dance - including dancing in small and large groups
Games - Invasion games e.g hockey and tag rugby
Striking and Fielding games e.g cricket, rounders and tennis
Athletics - including field and track events
Swimming - Year 4 children have swimming lessons during the Autumn Term.
In the Summer we enjoy our Sports Afternoon, where the whole school takes part in various track events such as the egg and spoon race and the skipping race. The KS2 children also compete in their four house groups in the House Cup Competition in sports such as netball, football and hockey.
We are delighted to announce that we, Binley Woods Primary School, have achieved the School Games Mark Award for the 2016/17 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.
Our sporting achievements this year include: Competing in a netball tournament, taking a cross country team to 3 events and reaching the final, taking athletes from Key Stage 2 to a local competition.
With a total of over 70 young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.
As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
A special thanks to: Coventry Sports Foundation staff, extra curricular clubs like Hot Shots basketball and support from the School Sports Partnership at Harris School.
We look forward to applying once again in 2018!
