Welcome to Year 1!
Mrs Moynihan, Mrs Walker and Mrs Good
Our topic this half term is ‘What was It Like To Be A Child In The Past?’
This has a history focus as we will be comparing what children used to do/where they used to go in the past to what children are able to experience today. We will also be comparing the past in the UK to other places around the world.
In maths we are focussing on solving doubling and halving problems and finding fractions like half and 1 quarter. We will also be finishing our learning on measure, including capacity and volume.
In English we will be focussing on applying our writing skills in short narratives. Including using conjunctions, prefixes and suffixes as well as ensuring we are forming our letters correctly and using full stops and capital letters.
In phonics we will continue to prepare for the phonics screen by doing lots of hands on fun activities. After the screen we will be continuing learning about alternative pronounciations.
In History we will be learning about Victorian children and how they were different to us. We will also learn about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole and debate the fairness about how each woman was treated differently and why.
In Design and Technology we will be learning to design and create our own moving toy.
In Art we will be exploring Monet’s work and considering how light affects colour.
