EYFS Curriculum Intent

At Binley Woods Primary School, we want our children to be happy, successful learners who have the knowledge, skills and attitudes they need to take positive steps in their life’s journey.   Our curriculum is engaging, meaningful and purposeful and provides our children with the understanding they need to embrace their futures with confidence.

Our Early Years Foundation Stage includes Woodlands Preschool and our Reception class. All staff value every child as a unique individual who can flourish and learn at their own pace and in their own individual way.  We celebrate differences within our school community and use these as a tool to guide the learning opportunities the children encounter during their time with us. Our collaborative approach and carefully planned curriculum, provides a challenging and enjoyable experience for each child in all areas of learning and development.

The Early Years Foundation Stage is crucial in securing solid foundations that our children continue to build upon throughout their education and for their time at our school. Our teaching in EYFS is underpinned by the whole school values of ‘Kindness, Resilience, Curiosity, Partnership, Respect and Self-Belief’ as well as the ‘Characteristics of Effective Teaching and Learning.’  

We begin the year by looking at the individual needs of our children and taking into account their different starting points and prior experiences. We aim for our children to approach their learning positively whilst developing their interpersonal skills, building resilience and becoming creative and critical thinkers.

These skills will enable the children to become life-long learners who are inquisitive and curious about the world around them. The development of these skills is underpinned by the teaching of basic skills, knowledge, concepts and values.  The childrens' development as life long learners is supported by our positive relationships with parents and carers. We recognise that effective communication with parents and carers is essential to enhancing the learning and development of the children and working with parents will ensure that each child progresses well during their time with us.
