At Binley Woods Primary School, our Design and Technology curriculum encourages children to use their creativity and imagination, whilst working both independently and as members of a team. The children are taught to combine their designing and making skills with knowledge and understanding in order to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems in a variety of contexts.
At our school, evaluation is paramount, as it is the key to children’s development of skills. The children are given many opportunities to practise skills (which are taught progressively through the school) and evaluate their product through questioning to allow them to produce a product, which meets the design criteria set. Our curriculum ensures that children are able to make links in their learning and reference to our curriculum’s key principles so that children understand significant design and creativity, designers and the relevance to the world we live in.
The children will acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on their learning in other disciplines such as mathematics, science, computing and art. The children will have opportunities to evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and effectiveness. They will also develop their knowledge of its impact on daily life and the wider world.
