Taking Care (Protective Behaviours)
Our staff are trained by Warwickshire Safeguarding Children’s Board to deliver an educational programme called Taking Care, which helps children to develop behaviours to protect themselves. This programme helps children learn more about their feelings and how to keep themselves safe.
The programme consists of a week of lessons for children, tailor made for each year group. It incorporates a wide range of learning activities which are lots of fun and are based on group discussions in the supportive and nurturing environment of your child’s classroom. The programme is run in many Warwickshire schools and aims to teach children about feeling safe and building networks of support they can use if they don’t feel safe.
The curriculum is based on the Protective Behaviours process. We talk about using safe language, how our body lets us know if we are not feeling safe, safe and unsafe secrets and the importance of children learning to name their body parts correctly. (For parents’ information it is policy at school to use the correct anatomical vocabulary following advice from Warwickshire Safeguarding Children’s Board.)
Children in all year groups take part in the programme every year. Please click on the thumbnail images below to reach online resource booklets and a leaflet provided by Warwickshire Safeguarding Children’s Board. These give you additional information about the programme, however if you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.
